Serving Wine
Aerate the Wine
Swirling the wine in the glass helps aerate it (much more effective than letting the wine breathe in the uncorked bottle).
A young intense, tannic reds wine needs up to 2 hours to open up. By letting the wine into contact with the oxygen in the air, their tannins will mature and your wine will become smoother and more balanced. On the other hand, 1 hour is often enough for a mature full bodied, complex red wine. Great white and noble sweet wines can also benefit from aeration, because they also need more oxygen.
Bringing wine to the right Temperature
It is important to serve the wine at the right temperature in order to really appreciate its true flavor. Your drinking pleasure can be reduced if a wine is served too warm or too cold.
- Reducing the temperature of a wine
Refreshing white wine, should be chilled to refrigerator temperature for an hour and halft before serving.
-
Refrigerator: as a rule of thumb you can drop the temperature of a wine bottle roughly 2°C (4°F) every ten minutes. However, do not use the refrigerator to store wine
-
Bucket with ice: place the bottle into a Bucket with ice and water is an easy and efficient way to keep your wine chilled at the table.
+ Increasing the temperature of a wine (to get more flavour and aroma...)
-
Cup your hands around the glass while you swirl
-
Place the wine bottle in a bucket with warm (but not boiling) wate
